News item: PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in southwest Florida are investigating a burglary at a home being rented by Tampa Bay Rays players Evan Longoria, David Price and Reid Brignac during spring training.
Nearly $56,000 in cash and property was taken, including Longoria’s AK-47. Said the All-Star third baseman, “It’s a personal item.”
I will think of Evan Longoria the next time I hear an announcer say, “And the runner is gunned down at third!!!”
The season starts Thursday.
(It was quickly pointed out to me that this is consecutive posts mentioning AK-47s. I may be dangerous, but I am not armed.)
Would someone please tell me why anyone needs an AK-47 at all? Personal item or not.
I’m very much against guns of any sort, but even using the right to bare arms and those who use hunting as arguments, why an AK-47? Furthermore, isn’t it kind of like bringing a gun to work? Afterall, baseball is his “work.”
What scares me most is that it is now loose on the streets.
Sorry Beckie. The NRA is financed by the gun industry and is able to mobilize zealots in an instant to (politically) attack any elected official who dares to even suggest limiting the availability of these weapons.
True. The same could be said of any other powerful group (ie, AARP, for example, though AARP is a benign example.)
I am struggling with this comparison. Although AARP causes are “benign” in comparison unlimited availability of firearms, their clout effectively stifles any conversation on things like social security and that’s not a good thing.
oops
…in comparison WITH…
Absolutely, Gene. That was my point. Any group that stifles discussion on any important issue.
Glad you two are on the same page!
That’s one boat I’m glad I missed Gerry.
Us po’ crackahs down heah in de swamp needs sumpin’ extra to play in de same d’vision wid you city boys in New York an’ Bos’n.
Just curious. Did you sound that out as you typed it?
Thats Great Li’l Em-kel.
living down here in now I’ve seen alot of stuff. People carry guns on them like the latest accessory. Of course it is Turkey Hunting Season. I’d rather be at the beach.
Maybe he was protecting the $ 56,000 in cash and property they just had “lying” around the house.
That’s more than my house cost 34 years ago.
