The Face of an Idiot

His name is Louis Camilleri.  He’s the CEO of Philip Morris.  He told a cancer nurse today at his company’s shareholder meeting that it’s not that hard to quit smoking.

I am not an anti-smoking crusader even though I smoked for way too long.  But let me be as clear as I can be:  quitting smoking is the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Louis Camilleri is an idiot.

I don’t know if Mr. Camilleri is a smoker (or ex-smoker) to have any credibility on this subject. Through my life experience I am convinced that people in powerful positions (business, politics, military, entertainment) find ways to delude themselves into believing things that allow them to rationalize their own behavior.

  2. Cat says:

I have a feeling one day Mr. Camilleri will meet someone like myself, as many times we are the last face a patient sees.
Wish I had been the Hospice RN he made that statement to,,,
I think you know me well enough by now Gerry, my answer to this gentleman would not have been pretty.

“Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I’ve done it thousands of times.” Mark Twain.

Twain was kidding, of course. Giving up smoking is hard for sure. But “the hardest thing?” I don’t think so – not for me anyway. I bet there are thirty or forty million ex-smokers in the US, many of whom face bigger problems than smoking. I don’t doubt that, for some, it may be the hardest thing to do, but not for everyone.

    At least it’s possible.

  4. It's me. says:

Camilleri may not be an idiot, just a liar.

  5. Bill from Billings says:

I quit June 24, 1975- Almost 36 years ago….I miss it every single day! He is worse than an idiot…….

  6. John says:

Just another corporate sociopath. Interesting how Dr. Jack Kevorkian got prison for helping a few people commit suicide while Mr. Camilleri gets 32 mil a year for helping millions commit suicide.
