Maya and Kemba

Once again, Connecticut basketball fans get to breathe the rarefied air of not one, but two Final Fours.

And once again, Geno and Jim have done something that most coaches would sacrifice a body part to do just once in their careers.  That’s why they’re Hall of Famers.

But they wouldn’t be in Indianapolis and Houston this weekend without two sterling examples of what college sports can be about.  What college sports should be about.

Maya and Kemba.

Connecticut is on a first-name basis with these two true student-athletes.  I was going to write a longer post extolling their virtues, but I just read Jeff Jacobs’ column in the Courant, and I wouldn’t do any better.  So here it is

Enjoy the weekend.  Enjoy your last looks at Maya and Kemba in UConn uniforms.

Go Huskies.

Amen, Gerry. They’re an amazing pair.

This NYTimes piece was a nice read as well.

Should be an interesting weekend for sure, I’ll have to grab a nap for Sundays game but Saturday night should be a good long one 🙂 Both Maya and Kemba represent the state extremely well, they’ve given their teams so much support in so many ways. Job well done by their parents and coaches.

Great article in the Courant. I’m glad to see mention of their academic achievements as well. That seemed to get lost in all the athletic hype and I feel it’s important for the young kids coming up that it isn’t just athletics that will bring you to the future, but academics as well. Both my daughters are graduates of UConn. It was a great experience for them. Go Huskies!

  5. Terry says:

Bottom line and the last line to quote ” His parents have raised a heck of a kid.”

    So did Maya’s mom.

    That says it all!

    GO UCONN

  6. Bruce B says:

I always was proud that UCONN emphasized the term “student athlete”.
