This is too cool. The Massachusetts legislature may take up a bill declaring Rex Trailer the official cowboy of the state.
Rex was the host of a kids show on Channel 4 in Boston called “Boomtown.” I was one of thousands of kids who thrilled to his exploits on weekend mornings.
One of the highlights of my career came just over two years ago, when we were both honored at an awards ceremony.
Even Rex, still active at 82, acknowledges that Massachusetts lawmakers have more important work to do.
So do Connecticut lawmakers. But hey, if they saddled up as kids with Tex Pavel or Ranger Andy…why not?
There certainly isn’t going to be much else to smile about in this session.

Maybe if we had more cowboys on tv, the kids wouldn’t have to watch all that crap they do. I’m thinking lawmakers shouldn’t have time for things like this, don’t we have budget issues ?

In my small hometown of Norwell, MA, my friend was amazed to find that Major Mudd had crashed in front of her house one night. Then shocked to discover that he was also rather inebriated. The next day he went on the show with his arm in a cast and told the kids he had made a crash landinig on the moon! Good times.
I’m in the newsroom right now, so I can’t laugh out loud. But I want to.
Tim Hollis’ compiled a history of local kiddie TV hosts in his book, “Hi There Boys and Girls”. I got Colonel Clown (Joey Russell) to sign my copy.
You don’t have to be from New England to be a Patriot. Rex deserves to be recognized like this. Why not? He has given selflessly to the people of Massachusetts since 1956.
