That Synergy Thing Needs Work

The Hartford Courant and Channel 61 are finally joined at the hip under the Tribune umbrella, and doing a dandy job with their continuing coverage of Katie Stevens’ run on “American Idol.”   (Hey, we beat the Olympics like a dirty rug.)

But the Katie team coverage has revealed some growing pains, as print and broadcast seek their corporate mojo.  Apparently, one on-air person at the 25-year-old television station told Ms. Stevens, “…we also have a newspaper.”  A 246-year-old newspaper.

Perhaps in retaliation, perhaps not, this morning’s newspaper noted (One the Web?) on page D1:  “See Sarah French’s interview with Katie Stevens during the Fox CT Morning News, 4:30 to 9 a.m., on WVIT, Fox 61.”

I know, those call letters are confusing, so let’s review:  WVIT=NBC Connecticut; WTIC=Fox CT.  And then there’s WFSB AND WTNH, who actually use those old fashioned numbers, 3 and 8.

One more thing:  If you actually watched straight through from 4:30 to 9 waiting for the interview, call me.  We need to talk.

I think the Eagles’ song “Dirty Laundry” more than adequately covered this subject.

not to be a jerk…but…”dirty laundry” was, actually, a solo hit for don henley.

  3. Last time I checked, WVIT was on “NBC 30” aka “NBC Connecticut”.

We dropped the “30” when we moved into the new World HQs and went HD. I kinda miss the old number. But in a cable world, we haven’t been 30 for a long time.
