The Connecticut Rays?

There are smart people in the Major League Baseball offices wondering if there’s hope of even discussing a potential move of the Rays to New Jersey or Southern Connecticut over certain protests from the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox and Phillies. (Peter Gammons/MLB.com)

When Peter Gammons talks (or writes), baseball people listen (or read).   The Tampa Bay Rays to Connecticut? I believe this will happen as much as I believed the Patriots were coming to Hartford.  And the Whalers are coming back.  As in, not at all.  Not even a little bit.  But still, this is Gammons, the de facto commissioner of baseball.

This isn’t getting much play in Connecticut (I noticed the link on the “Capitol Report” web site.  Kudos to Tom Dudchick.)

But they have taken notice of Gammo’s words in Florida.  And they give them credence.

Oh, what the hell.  Season tickets?  Where do I sign up?

The ghost of Bob Kraft … wait a second. He’s still alive. The real question is who will play John Rowland in this potential soap opera?

It would be great but I think the Sox, Yanks and Mets may have an issue with this.

  3. Bill says:

A NFL could make it in Connecticut- Why.?..Only 8 regular season home games. Baseball , Hockey ,Basketball- Two years of sell-outs and then everyone scatters…Why…..
Imagine having season tickets to “The Connectcut Insurance”(One of those cool ol WFL type of names)of The
National League. Husband turns to wife: “Look Honey- the “surance”(cool local nickname for the team) have a 12 game homestand coming up”. Wife rolls eyes….season tickets are not renewed. Two years later the “surance” move to Buffalo where his scene is repeated.
But its fun to talk about!

Au contraire, I’m sure the Hartford File Cabinets would do better than The Whalers. For one thing, they’d have a more appropriate mascot.

  5. Yikes! Now we’ll have to choose among the FOUR Major League Baseball teams in the area instead of three.
