Fame and Shame

Tiger Woods’ car accident and the White House party crashers have me thinking about the famous and those who wannabe.

Very few manage fame better than the world’s number-one golfer.  Woods is a control freak.  Right now, the only thing we know he lost control of was his car.  But by doing so, he lost control of his tightly-scripted public persona.  A rare misstep that his “people,” are dealing with.

Free advice to Tiger:  take the “I’m only human after all” approach.   You’re welcome.

And then there are people like the Salahis.  As Alessandra Stanley points out in the New York Times, reality television is making some people do seriously stupid stuff.  Just to be famous.  The Salahis crashed a better party than the Gosselins or the Heenes.  Naturally, they already have a date on Larry King.

Free advice to the Secret Service:  next time, take the “Shoot on sight” approach.  You’re welcome.

Hey, wait a minute, Gerry. What we know right now about Tiger is that (1) his lip is busted and (2) his car is banged up. Period. So, what do we do?

WWBD? (What would Barak do?) He wouldn’t jump to any conclusions. These two facts may or may not be connected. Let’s wait a year or so until all the facts are known. Just like with everything else. Except health care, of course.

    THEN we can assign blame.

  2. Rick D says:

Tiger’s wife seems to be pretty handy with a nine iron. Or was it a wedge? Look out!!

  3. Jerry says:

Are we certain Tiger’s wife was swinging the club at the window? And we all know that you have to get up real early to get a decent tee time.

  4. graham says:

I just want to know if whe hit the rear window Before or After he hit the hydrant.

  5. And what the hell were the Salahis thinking?! They knew they were not invited to the Gala that featured Barack Obama, but they didn’t listen.

P.S. You don’t mess with the Secret Service.

  6. Tiger’s mishap doesn’t add up. When’s the last time you pulled out of your driveway at 2:30 a.m. so disoriented that you ran smack into a fireplug and a tree?
Maybe he could use the sleepwalking defense.
TMZ is reporting that it was his supermodel wife who split his lip, not the accident:

5 comments on Tiger/Elin…one on the celebrity whores.
    Interesting.

  8. Bob Porrazzo says:

Speaking of the Salahis…THIS ONE IS GETTING UGLIER BY THE SECOND!

Am puzzled as to why Tiger’s accident is the #1 news story. Front page on CBS, ABC, CNN? Is it that slow a news week? Thought the Enquirer and TMZ already had this one covered…..

    • Gerry says:

The line has been blurred forever. NBC Nightly News prominently played the Tiger and Salahi stories toward the front of the broadcast Monday night. For that matter, they have a correspondent (Maria Menounos) who frequently crosses the line between Nightly and Access Hollywood.
I’ll know it’s a true sign of the apocalypse when Billy Bush fills in for Brian Williams.

  10. Li'l Em-Kel says:

I watched the Brian Williams show Monday. A rare treat for me. There wasn’t a single mention of the opening of the Senate debate on the new health plan legislation. Nothing!

It was a good reminder of why I stopped watching Big 3 network news.
