It Was 20 Years Ago Today

“The wall is gone. Two Berlins are one. Two Germanys are one. Two Europes are one.” Prime Minister Gordon Brown of Britain.

The Berlin Wall fell 20 years ago today.  It was thrilling.  One of the few times I had unbridled hope for the future of the planet.

Anyone who grew up with the dark cloud of the Cold War hanging over their heads would understand.

  1. I cringe every time I see Ronald Reagan get sole credit for getting that wall torn down. It was so much more complicated than that. Lech Walensa and Solidarity, Vaclav Havel and the Velvet Revolution and yes, even that Commie bastard Mikhail G. played major roles in the drama. But look at the videos. Consider the history. Look at all those Berliners literally tearing down that wall.

What a story. Surely one of the top ten of the 20th century

  2. And your clip includes what just might be the most bungled news conference in the history of broadcasting. This poor slob had no media savvy. No PR skills. And was as prepared as New Orleans was for Katrina.
