BALLOON BOY LIVES

Balloon Boy

Balloon Boy

That was the headline on the Larry King show when I looked up at the monitor just before 9:30 Thursday night.  And guess who was on.  Yup, you got it, Balloon Boy’s family.

Traumatized?  Maybe.  But certainly not traumatized enough to turn down an invitation to appear on national television.  Which, by the way, they had done before on the ABC reality show “Wife Swap.”

Stunt?  Dunno.  The family is not averse to publicity, and Dad’s quite the talker.  And surely, this episode was infinitely more interesting than “Wife Swap.”

Want to commandeer the cable news networks?  It’s so easy, a six year old (and his family) can do it!

I just heard on the news this morning that the first call they made was to a television station rather than the police????

i have my suspicions whether this was real or not. however the 24 hr news networks went with it without checking facts. what great publicity! however the police should investigate and make the family pay for all the expenses for the search and rescue if they determine it was a publicity stunt.

  3. Dead on Gerry….24 hour news networks are a joke:

CNN and MSNBC switch from a story on terrorism in Pakistan and Afghanistan to a “breaking story”..what was the breaking story? Rush Limbaugh being dropped from the bid to buy a football team…

Then yesterday, wall to wall coverage of a balloon chase….

A sorry state of affairs in news gathering and reporting.

  4. Cable news and weather Channel anchors focused on a story propelled by hot air. How fitting.

  5. Gerry says:

I just caught up on the family’s appearances on Today and GMA.

And I do believe Andy Borowitz sums it up best. (Steven, thank you for pointing this out.)

If you can see my email address, drop me a note – I have a question – think my girlfriend knows your bride from work…
