This Old Building…

…is almost ready to come down.  I took a final walk through the old Channel 30 building this week.  It will soon be a memory.

The newsroom is a dusty, silent shell of a place where you could barely hear yourself think sometimes.

The reminder, taped to the wall, of the start time for our final 11pm news in the old place.

The studio sits in darkness.  Equipment catalogued, ready to be sold, donated, or recycled.

There is a bare minimum of sentimentality.  The old building’s time had come.  Our analog world has gone digital.

Besides, we really need a new parking lot.

Aww…maybe more sentimental for those of us who don’t need to park the car in the snow bank in the north forty.

Thanks for the pictures and the trip down memory lane!

  2. Gerry…if some of the old stuff is being donated, I know a local access television station that might be able to use some stuff! CATV 6 in North Canaan!

Thanks for sharing your pictures with us. It’s nice to have a look inside your world. To go with your new innovative, high tech building, are they going to give you a covered parking facility? Sure would be nice after those late night broadcasts in the middle of winter!

Thanks for the note on my blog Gerry. 🙂

Funny how the camera / lighting makes the set look bigger and more aesthetically pleasing than it actually is. The wood pattern in the background…does it actually have depth? On TV it looked that way.

Ya know, I remember as a kid (9 or 10) being in the studio and meeting the great Tom Monahan. I don’t remember why but I remember the moment. I’m the same age as you, Gerry, so you know when that was.
