Are you a little creeped out seeing Billy Mays still selling stuff on TV?
You’re not alone, but there is a very simple reason why he’s still pitching on video: “…his ads are producing response rates as good — or in some cases better than — before his death. Mr. Mays, they believe, would have wanted it this way.” (Advertising Age)
Of course he would. But if he really had his druthers, he’d still be vertical.
The same phenomenon has returned Michael Jackson to the top of the charts. But in an incredible case of role reversal, Michael is far less creepy than Billy in death.
Think about it. In Jackson’s case, you listen to a song or watch a video, and enjoy his talent. With Mays, all you have is a dead man screaming at you to buy Mighty Putty.
And then there is the passing of one of the greatest brand names of all time. If you throw a dog on the grill this weekend, make it an Oscar Mayer. He was 95.
