Good Career Move

Are you a little creeped out seeing Billy Mays still selling stuff on TV?

Billy Mays

Billy Mays

You’re not alone, but there is a very simple reason why he’s still pitching on video:  “…his ads are producing response rates as good — or in some cases better than — before his death. Mr. Mays, they believe, would have wanted it this way.”  (Advertising Age)

Of course he would.  But if he really had his druthers, he’d still be vertical.

The same phenomenon has returned Michael Jackson to the top of the charts.  But in an incredible case of role reversal, Michael is far less creepy than Billy in death.

Think about it.  In Jackson’s case, you listen to a song or watch a video, and enjoy his talent.   With Mays, all you have is a dead man screaming at you to buy Mighty Putty.

And then there is the passing of one of the greatest brand names of all time.  If you throw a dog on the grill this weekend, make it an Oscar Mayer.  He was 95.

  1. Oh I wish I was an Oscar Mayer wiener….

Or as Louis Tiant used to say..”it’s great to play with a wiener!”

  2. Marshall? I want you to march yourself down the the principal’s office right now.

And I couldn’t agree more, Gerry, about this Billy Mays thing. I’ve never seen anything like it. What’s next? Ed McMahon showing up on the screen pitching those Clearing House Sweepstakes things? Carl Malden growling ” Don’t leave home without it.” again?

  3. Terrance…oh my God your right!!!!

“it’s great to play ON a wiener!”

    No “bun” intended

  4. Oh the difference one word makes. Hilarious, Marshall

  5. Gerry says:

You two wanna get a room?

  6. We’re meeting in P Town this evening. At the Crown and Anchor. Marshall said I’ll know him when I see him.

” I’ll be the one in the sling back pumps, ” he said.

Don’t mention this to our wives, Gerry. And don’t you dare show up with a videographer and do a Brooks File on this.

  7. Kim says:

LOL – hope the weekend was nice!!

  8. Marshall stood me up. All that waiting in traffic at the Bourne Bridge for nothing!
