I like to look at the ads to see who’s coming to perform at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods.
I don’t go, mind you. I just look at the ads, and consider that not too long ago, some of the biggest names in show business would have been playing in the middle of eastern Connecticut forest.
And then I saw this ad for the MGM Grand. Let me repeat that. THE MGM GRAND.
“The Heroes of Woodstock”…40 years later. Playing the MGM Grand.
Hosted by Country Joe McDonald himself, whose “I Feel Like I’m Fixing To Die Rag” was an anti-war anthem back in the day.
And it’s one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don’t ask me, I don’t give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it’s five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain’t no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we’re all gonna die.
Maybe so, Joe, but not until after you…as the MGM Grand web site puts it… “enjoy 300 thread count Monaco imported linens adorning feather-pillow topped beds that envelop you in a warm caress of blissful comfort.”
Well, that’s one route to the pearly gates, I suppose.
Hey, times and people change.
