For those of you following along with the program, today is our last full day in the Andean region of Peru. Which means my lungs can go on vacation tomorrow.
Machu Picchu is at an altitude of 8,000 feet above sea level. We prepared for the thin air by taking a drug that would help with the headaches and nauseous feeling that being at high altitudes can bring,
So we did pretty well with climbing sites like this.
Just in case, we bought a couple of cans of OxiShot. Yup, oxygen in a can. Take a couple of shots, have some wine, and call me in the morning.
We have been in Cusco the last couple of days. Cusco is the seat of everything Inca. It’s really a fabulous city of just under 400,000 people. And it sits 11,200 feet above sea level.
So even a simple walk up a hill like this…
…can make your lungs scream, “Noooooo!!!!”
And now that we’re (almost) fully acclimated, it’s almost time to return to Lima.
Exhale.
Once again, thank you for taking time to send great photos to those of us at home. It’s like having you for our very own travel guide! Sounds as if you are having a terrific time!
My pleasure. And it really is terrific to see a new place and learn about it.
Good thing you have the lungs to keep up, you’re a wise man Mr. Brooks. Enjoy the rest of your vacation with the Mrs.
Barely, Mary. And I will.
I imagine the shots of oxygen & wine was very nice & legal too!
And so is the coca tea!
Wonderful pics, and it looks like you guys are having a wonderful time. Your life is good, and I think those you meet in your travels will be made somewhat better, having met you.
The Web Town Observers board of directors meets tomorrow night. On the agenda: Naming you as WTO Caribbean/South American Ambassador. I’ve counted the votes. You’re a sure bet.
I will serve proudly. Thank you.
Great pics indeed Gerry.
I’m seeing the world and its not costing me a cent.
Now, can you get a few cans of the Oxygen home,, hmmm, please…..
Have fun!
Don’t think we’ll have room in the suitcases, but…
