They’re everywhere.  I’ve seen them on the cover of every other magazine on the newsstand.
The promos for “Access Hollywood,” “Extra,” “Entertainment Tonight,” and the shows of that ilk promise to report on every damn move they make and every breath they take.
And now I know their names.  Because on Friday night, Jon and Kate Gosselin invaded the [...]

The Dearly Beloved and I spent a few dearly beloved days on St. Martin.  (The French side, as opposed to the Dutch side, St. Maarten).
We have been going there for many, many years enjoying a taste of Europe in the Caribbean.  Part of that taste is many days spent at Orient Bay, which has a [...]

It’s always interesting to see how long that “vacation glow” will last after you get home.  Mine was run off the road on the way to work.
A tractor-trailer cut in front of me, leaving just enough to room for me to live to tell.  Regaining my bearing, I found myself confronted with a slogan on [...]

A few years ago, I made a beach music CD for one of our trips, which, of course, had to include “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and The Waves.
Listening to the song Wednesday as we were returning our rental car, these lyrics hit me.
Now everytime I go for the mailbox , gotta hold myself down

My Toy Box

The toes know…it’s time to come home.

I’m having a pre-departure cocktail and packing up my toys.  The digital camera and its accoutrements, the iPod and headphones (for use only on the plane, not on the beach), two novels, four magazines (my hate/love/hate affair with Vanity Fair continues), the ac adaptors, and in moments, our mini [...]

Lunn may not have much of a future in football, but judging by this interview with Deadspin about his European [...]

He was worshipped by Red Sox Nation in 2004, not that he seemed to care all that much.
What’s become of Keith Foulke and his complex personality?  Turns out he’s a Newark Bear, hoping for one more shot at The Show.  If you’re interested, read more about it.
Strange dude.

(From the NY Daily News.  I’m not perfect, but this is the television equivalent of making your free throws.  You gotta make your free throws!)
Morgan racks up a bad lib
WNBC/Ch. 4 anchor DeMarco Morgan had a moment Sunday night at 6 where he probably wished he could have had a do-over.
“Ad lib to John,” Morgan said, [...]

“How did you like “Slumdog Millionaire?”
“I thought it was OK.”
And with that reply, Ms. Keisha Grant looked at me as if I had two heads with four different colored eyes.
How could I not love, love, love the darling of the Academy that won eight Oscars?
Great expectations.  Probably unreasonable expectations.  After reading all about it, hearing everyone [...]

Ritual

Andy Weigert liked golf and Dewar’s scotch.
So today, as we do every year, the DB and I poured a Dewar’s on his gravestone and left a Titleist in a graveside divot.
Andy left us 15 years ago yesterday.  Just 46.  Cancer.  He was my golf partner and our very good friend.
It’s a simple ritual that takes just [...]
