I’ve spent the weekend on the bottom of the front page of nbc30.com right under “Show off your fish.” Show off your fish? Hey, I want to show off the birdies I made at 7 and 15 over the weekend at Tallwood CC. Memo to website goddess Michele: you owe me a fin.
All weekend long…from my brother, from my mother, from the boys at Tallwood, from folks I didn’t know at the convenience store…a universal sense of sadness, even grief, at Tim Russert’s sudden passing. This email I got from a friend summarizes much of what I heard:
I rarely get bummed when celebrities die.
But I was really heartbroken to hear of Tim Russert’s death. Like I told my wife, I felt as if I knew him. I watched him every Sunday morning. He was an outstanding analyst, but as an interviewer he was the best. In fact I told my wife I thought he was the best ever. No matter what the interviewee said he had something ready for them. Let them talk, not just to be polite but to allow them to fully commit to the road they were taking, then boom, if they were inconsistent or untruthful he had the goods on them. The best prepared interviewer I’ve ever seen.
And I really liked Tim Russert the person. Of course I didn’t actually know Tim Russert the person, but his demeanor and everything you ever heard about him made you believe that he was a genuine guy. I can honestly say that my Sunday mornings won’t be the same.
I have instructed the entire Web staff to never ever again leave you under the Fish.
I’m sorry I needed a day off Mr. Brooks!
