SATC: IJDC

It even has its own acronym.  Google “Sex and the City” and you’ll find hundreds…nay, thousands…of articles and reviews.
Here is mine:  IJDC.  (I just don’t care.)
But I do have this wonderful fantasy that immediately after this picture was taken, Kim Cattrall checked Sarah Jessica Parker into the boards, then whaled on her.
And on that [...]

Have the Celtics-Pistons game on.  Since the playoffs began, I’ve been trying to figure out who Detroit coach Flip Saunders is a dead ringer for, and I think I’ve got it.

SUPER DAVE OSBORNE!!!
Super Dave is actually Bob Einstein, aka “Marty Funkhouser” on Curb Your Enthusiasm.  And he’s Albert Brooks’s older brother.
Yes, there are many more [...]

OFF TO MAYBERRY

They come in threes, they say.  Sydney Pollack and Dick Martin contributed mightily to American popular culture in their own ways.
But Earle Hagen’s contribution may be the most durable of the three.  Hagen helped write the soundtrack to our lives, one minute at a time.
Ever whistle the theme to “The Andy Griffith Show“?   Ever hear a ditty that [...]

THE NEWS:
MINIMUM WAGE WORKERS WILL NOT BE GETTING AN AUTOMATIC RAISE IN JANUARY.
GOV. RELL TODAY VETOED THE BILL THAT WOULD HAVE INCREASED THE STATE’S MINIMUM WAGE FROM 7.65…TO 8-DOLLARS AN HOUR.
RELL SAID SHE DIDN’T WANT TO TAKE ANY ACTION THAT WILL NEGATIVELY AFFECT BUSINESSES OR JOBS WHILE TIMES ARE SO TOUGH.

THE VIEW:

ONE OF THOSE GUYS

We all know the Papis and the Mannys;  the A-Rods and the Giambinos.
Well, this one is for the Geremis.  Or Jeremis.
Jeremi Gonzalez pitched for the Red Sox in 2005.  He was 2-1, and one of those guys Tito would throw in when no one else was available…or when he was in desperate need of a [...]

TOP OF THE WORLD

That’s the name of the golf course I played over the holiday weekend, and that’s the way it makes you feel.

It’s near Lake George, NY…a relatively short course…only $40 for 18, including cart, on a holiday.
It’s not the most manicured 18 you’ll ever play, and some parts of the course may even have you thinking ‘cow [...]

CALENDAR CONFUSION

Why is THIS Memorial Day weekend?  The traditional Memorial Day is the 31st, which is NEXT weekend.  It still would have been a weekend!!!
Who makes these calendar decisions?
Is there a federal Office of the Calendar?   And did they sit around with a bottle of Jack and say, “Hey, let’s screw with Memorial Day in 2008!”
If someone [...]

I CHEATED DEATH!

I just finished taking CHANTIX after six months, and lived to tell about it!
I wasn’t going to share this, until I realized that I apparently stared down the Grim Reaper without knowing it.
CHANTIX is Pfizer’s anti-smoking drug, and it’s back in the headlines because the FAA has banned pilots and air traffic controllers from using it.
Previously, [...]

BABIES AND DOGS

It’s a given of journalism.   You can’t go wrong with any story about babies and dogs.
Or just about any other animal, including raccoons.  Our story this week about baby raccoons stranded in a tree drew dozens of emails and phone calls expressing deep concern for the little critters.   And yes, thanks to NBC30 viewers, there [...]

TEDDY

Those of us who grew up in the Boston area in the 50’s and 60’s grew up with the Kennedys.  My parents were not Kennedy Democrats, but were taken by the aura nonetheless.  Who wasn’t?
They lined us up outside St. Francis Xavier church in Hyannis one summer Sunday morning to get a glimpse of Jack and [...]
