NEVER MIND

Mets fans: disregard previous post.
Feel free to scream at the top of your lungs.
My condolences.
(By the way, I forgot Brad Drazen and Garett Argianas. Sorry, boys.)

YA GOTTA BELIEVE!!!

We have a wonderfully diverse crew here at NBC 30.
I’m talking baseball, by the way.
For instance, in the sports dungeon you’ll find a Yankee fan (producer Don Laviano), a Red Sox fan (Mike Ratte), and a Met fan (Kevin Nathan).
All of us rooting for the “local” teams are revving up for the playoffs, but we’re [...]

ISN’T THAT SPECIAL

There was certainly nothing “special” about the special session of the legislature Wednesday in Hartford.
Governor Rell promises to veto the 2-year, 4.6-billion dollar package of bonding initiatives passed last week. Too expensive.
She called in lawmakers because she wanted a vote on funding for school construction projects only.
The Democrats didn’t want to, and because they control [...]

HOW ABOUT BLINDFOLDS?

I came across this gem on the Associated Press wire Tuesday night.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Prompted by parents’ complaints about sex and violence in inflight movies, two congressmen introduced legislation Tuesday calling for airlines to create kid-friendly zones on planes.

What a creature of habit.

Two things happened Monday that added to my constant amazement at how quickly the world has changed…and how much smaller it is than it used to be.73-thousand members of the United Auto Workers went on strike against General Motors. The first UAW strike against G.M. in 37 years. And it was the THIRD story on [...]

BILL GONILLO

Connecticut broadcasting lost one of its friendliest and hardest working people over the weekend.
You probably won’t remember Bill Gonillo from NBC 30, but downstate, viewers have known him as the sports director of News 12 for the past 12 years.
According to the New Haven Register, Bill was found dead in his home in Woodbridge Sunday. [...]

FROM THE COURSE TO THE CLASSROOM

I will be off the air today, playing in and emceeing my final (sigh) golf tournament of the year.

All of the tournaments at which I represent NBC 30 are for worthy causes, but today’s is especially worthwhile.
It’s the CALAHE Scholarship tournament at Hop Meadow in Simsbury.
CALAHE stands for Connecticut Association of Latinos in Higher Education.
The [...]

A new study actually suggests watching TV may be good for you.

Researchers surveyed 800 viewers in 2004, before and after they watched 3 episodes of “ER.”
They found the “ER” viewers were 65% more likely to report behavior changes…and they said the show had a positive effect on their health knowledge.
Believe it or not, the [...]

GAG ME…AGAIN!

It seemed like such a good idea at the time.
